The piece Missa Lima, GL 77, for accordion and choir, in memory of the great accordionist Eugénia Lima, was commissioned by the Castelo Branco City Council to mark the centenary of the artist’s birthdate.
Dedicated to the accordionist Francisco Martins and the Cetóbriga Chamber Choir, this Mass is in the Solemnis form, meaning that the Gloria and the Credo are divided into more movements than usual; in this case, both are divided into three.
In addition to the sacred text, some traditional Portuguese songs will feature in this piece, paying homage to Eugénia Lima’s own classical and folk heritage.
A request to the audience: please clap only when the Agnus Dei movement has finished; although there is another movement, Ite Missa Est, this movement is to be played whilst the audience is leaving the venue.
