Pedro Melo Alves

Born in 1991 in Oporto, Pedro Melo Alves started studying the bachelor in Jazz Drums in 2011 at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo do Porto and in 2015 the bachelor in Composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, tutored by Sérgio Azevedo, José Luís Ferreira and António Pinho Vargas. Winner of the Bernardo Sassetti Composition Prize in 2016 and National Musician of the Year in 2017 by jazz.pt, along with other awards at the combo jazz area (Prémio Jovens Músicos 2013) and solo drums (Yamaha PMS 2007, Madrid).

Pedro is currently a member of his octet Omniea Ensemble (Nischo Records 2017), The Rite of Trio (Carimbo Porta-Jazz 2015) and electroacoustic projects (O, Symph), explores the multidisciplinarity at the Colectivo Caos and writes music for theatre and dance since 2014, working with various national and international performers as Carlota Lagido (Jungle Red) and Peter Kleinert (A Boa Alma de Sé-Chuão).
