Nelson Jesus

Along with Nelson Jesus’ (1986) activity as a saxophonist and conductor, in the composition field, after a self-taught stage, studied with Fernando C. Lapa and João-Heitor Rigaud at the Oporto Music Conservatory. Nelson continued his studies privately with the Argentinian composer Fernando Altube and the Bachelor in Composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa with Sérgio Azevedo and Luís Tinoco. Winner of the 1st Composition Prize for the Banda Sinfónica Ibermúsicas Oaxaca-2014, the 2nd Prize of the 4th National Composition Competition of the Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa, the 1st Prize of the 4th Edition of the Composition Competition of the Orquestra de Sopros Inatel-Banda Sinfónica do Exército, the 1st WASBE Composition Award for Windband in the educational category in 2017. He was selected as Resident Composer of the Cascais and Oeiras Chamber Orchestra in 2017 and in 2018 won the SPA/Antena 2 Composition Award, receiving a scholarship from the Gulbenkian Foundation.
