Carlos Lopes

Born in 1995, in Guimarães. Completed his piano studies between 2007 and 2013, at the Centro de Cultura Musical in Santo Tirso. He concluded his piano bachelor’s degree in 2017 at Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo (ESMAE) in Oporto, studying with Constantin Sandu. He started his bachelor in Composition in 2016 at ESMAE, where he studied with Dimitrios Andrikopoulos, Carlos Azevedo and Pedro Santos. He won the 2nd prize APMPV at the 11th edition of the Póvoa de Varzim International Composition Competition with his string quartet “Tragoidia”. In 2019, his piece “5 Variações do Desassossego” for baritone and orchestra was premiered at the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, as part of a workshop oriented by Luís Tinoco.
