João Carlos Pinto

João Carlos Pinto was born in Braga, Portugal. Studied Piano and Composition at the Gulbenkian Conservatory of Braga. Attended masterclasses and workshops with Ensemble Recherche, Tristan Murail, Alexander Schubert, John Chowning, Rebecca Saunders, João Pedro Oliveira, Panayiotis Kokoras, Carola Bauckholt. His music as been played at: Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Casa da Música, Festival DME, Festival Mixtur, Musica Viva Festival, S. Luiz Theater. He has received commissions by Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Prémio Jovens Músicos and Arte no Tempo. Nominated Young Associated Composer of Estúdios Vitor Córdon in 2019. He’s also the artistic director of the international and multidisciplinary project “La Esfera : Colectivo”. Currently he is finishing his Bachelor in Composition at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, studying with Luís Tinoco and Carlos Caires. Prizes/Honors: Work edited by Ablaze Records – “Electronics Masters Vol. 7”; 2nd Prize – VI Composition Competition/Portuguese Symphonic Band; best work in the genre – War movie/Film Music Competition 2016, Associazione Ravel; 1st Prize – Nanomúsicos Eletroacústicos 2016/Festival DME.
