Roberto Pérez

Born in Buenos Aires (1958). He studied classical guitar with Antonio Bava, piano with E. Cuniberti and Zbigniew Neuhoff, and harmony and counterpoint with Jacobo Ficher. In 1984, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Orchestral Con-ducting from the Facultad de “Artes y Ciencias Musicales” at the Catholic Uni-versity of Argentina. In 2009, he completed his PhD in Music and Musicology at the University of Évora under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Christopher Bochmann.

From 1984 onwards, he undertook further training courses in the areas of conducting, analysis, chamber music and early music in Buenos Aires, Brasília and Zlín. He has conducted orchestras in Argentina, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy and Portugal.

As a university lecturer, he has taught at the Catholic University of Argentina, the University of the ‘Museo Social Argentino’, the Federal University of Bahia (Brazil), the University of Aveiro, the Afonso III University Institute (Loulé), the University of Évora, and the Escola Superior de Música Lisboa. He has recorded CDs with the Madeira Classical Orchestra and the Esproarte Orchestra.

He has written texts for courses in Analysis, Orchestration and Choral Conducting, as well as for specialist journals in Argentina, Portugal and Brazil. As a composer, he has premiered works in Argentina, Portugal and Italy. He has been based in Portugal since 1988. He has taught at more than ten vocational music schools in Portugal. Between 2009 and 2018, he was a member of UnIMeM (UE) and the Centre for Research in Education and Training Sciences at INUAF. In 2015, he took up the post of Coordinator of Artistic and Outreach Activities at CEDIM, the Centre for Musical Studies and Outreach (Castro Verde), a position he held until 2019. In 2019, he began teaching Chamber Music, Orchestra, ATC and TAM at ARTAVE.
