This piece consists of two consecutive parts; Lament and Black Sea Dance. While writing the Lament movement, I was inspired by the music of Turkish Minstrels. Minstrels sing with the accompaniment of “saz” or “bağlama” in response to a sad or happy event, the music and lyrics are almost always improvised. That’s why the lament has a very free structure. In the Black Sea Dance, I was inspired by the folklore dances of this region. The dance incorporates elements from fast and energetic folklore music. In this section, the rhythmic structure is at the forefront. Basak Ersöz
