These four piano pieces are, in a way, a tribute to my jazz heroes. They are filled with quotes from their works, as well as some clichés commonly heard in jazz. The pieces are designed as an introduction to jazz harmonies, especially for pianists who are not yet familiar with this style. Some of them include sections for solos, providing space for improvisation. While there are some suggested ideas for these solos, pianists are encouraged to bring their own creativity and ideas.
Quasi Jazz was composed as part of the concert “Who stole the Upbeats?” – text by Mário João Alves -, an educational concert commissioned by the Festival Internacional de Música de Espinho (FIME), in 2017.
