sou já do que fui was written in the context of the “Transmusica” project, a transnational production of five composers – Theo Herbst (South Africa), Michael Walter (Germany), Nicolas Jacquot (France), Riccardo Vaglini (Italy) and Portugal – and a piano duo – Duo Jost Costa, Yseult Jost (France) and Domingos Costas (Portugal). The title has its origin in the following text:

E sou já do que fui tão diferente
Que, quando por meu nome alguém me chama,
Pasmo, quando conheço
Que ainda comigo mesmo me pareço.

This piece is based on the unifying theme of identity from an individual perspective, the self-identity. sou já do que fui is an autobiographical work since it consciously brings up the sounds and main traits of my music over the past few years. Paulo Bastos
